Hames Sharley has joined forces with Studio 53, an award winning Perth firm who are recognised for their residential, interior and urban design projects.

Hames Sharley and Studio 53 share a commitment to creating vital, vibrant and healthy spaces that encourage people and communities to grow. This shared ethos and professionalism signifies a natural alignment between the two firms. “As this year marks Hames Sharley’s 40th anniversary, our alliance with Studio 53 also represents the next step in our continued growth as a national practice and major player in the marketplace,” said William Hames, Executive Chairman.

The alliance will see Studio 53 co-founder and Managing Director Chris Maher take up a Directorship at Hames Sharley. With over 25 years of experience in Australia, Hong Kong and the UK, Chris brings a multi-facetted approach to his work, utilising extensive skills in both architecture and urban design.

“We are immensely proud of the body of work that Studio 53 have built up over the last seven years. This collaboration adds significant value for existing and future clients,” said Chris. Co-founder of Studio 53, Charlotte Kennedy will take on the role of Western Australian Principal, Interior Design. Charlotte also comes with extensive international experience in the design sector with specialist skills in commercial and hospitality.

They will be joined by three additional design professionals from Studio 53, who will all play an essential role in Hames Sharley’s increased commitment to stakeholder engagement and exemplary design. Their diverse skill-sets will perfectly complement Hames Sharley’s existing team and expand the client base to offer exceptional service across a diverse range of disciplines, including architecture, urban design, master planning and interior architecture.

“We have known the Studio 53 team for a number of years and have been continually impressed with their dedication to place-making through knowledge and community engagement,” said William Hames, Executive Chairman. Further to this exciting alliance comes the appointment of Yvonne Rantzen to the role of National Interior Design Principal in the Queensland studio.

Yvonne’s 20 years’ experience in numerous design sectors, including workplace, commercial, residential, health, hospitality, education and defence will be an incredibly valuable asset to the growing team. Her former position as Director and Co-President of the Design Institute of Australia’s Queensland Chapter is further testament to Yvonne’s wide-ranging experience and ability.
