Project is the largest U.S. public-private partnership to date

HDR is on the I-4 Mobility Partners team that was selected by the Florida Department of Transportation  for the I-4 Ultimate Project, which will transform mobility in central Florida.

HDR is teamed with Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. in the design joint venture tasked with leading engineering for I-4 Mobility Partners.  The joint venture is responsible for delivering final designs of the project, including roadway/traffic control, drainage, structures, intelligent traffic systems, signing and signalization, lighting and landscaping/aesthetics. I-4 Mobility Partners is led by Skanska Infrastructure Development and John Laing, concessionaire for the project, with Skanska, Granite and Lane Construction as the construction joint venture.

The I-4 Ultimate project is a public-private partnership concession agreement to design, build, finance, operate and maintain 21 miles of I-4 from west Kirkman Road in Orange County to east of State Road 434 in Seminole County. The I-4 Ultimate project includes reconstructing 15 major interchanges; constructing more than 140 bridges; adding four variable priced toll Express Lanes in the median; and completely rebuilding the general use lanes along the entire corridor. The express lanes will be operated with variable tolls which will be adjusted to improve traffic flow throughout the corridor. FDOT will retain the revenue and will control the toll rates. The total design and construction cost is $2.32 billion in year of expenditure dollars. The contract has a 40-year term, including construction, which is expected to begin in 2015 and be completed by 2021.
