Due to their age, a significant share of Eastern European power plants must be retrofitted with modern technology.

In this regard, Bilfinger, the engineering and services group, has won a major order for the modernization of a thermal power plant for its client, Dalkia, in the Polish city of Lodz. With the installation of two steam generators with low-emission firing systems, it will be possible in future to comply with the stipulated EU emission limits. The order has a volume of approximately €60 million; work will begin in March 2014 and will carry on for a period of two years.

In addition to design and engineering, services also include delivery, assembly and commissioning of the plant components. As a result of the upgrade, plant availability increases and the service life again reaches the level of a newly-constructed power plant. Bilfinger is pleased to help Dalkia in the field of increasing the safety of heat supply for the city of Lodz, while improving air quality by reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions into the atmosphere thanks to its reliable and advanced technology.

"With the new order, we can further expand our position as a highly qualified service provider in the Polish power plant market", says Joachim Enenkel, the responsible Member of the Executive Board at Bilfinger SE. "Demand for services for conventional power plants remains high, especially in Eastern Europe." The company is already modernizing ten of the twelve boilers at Europe's largest coal-fired power plant in Belchatow, Poland.
