Indra technology will control energy balances for Kenya power supply grid
Indra has won a new contract with KPLC (Kenya Power&Lighting Company), the Kenyan power supply company, to implement InGRID.ECL (Energy Control & Losses), the solution developed by the multinational consulting and technology firm to control balances and losses of energy and water in the utilities sector.
KPLC is the company that owns and operates the majority of the electricity transmission and distribution system in Kenya, and is actively promoting a campaign to reduce the energy losses in its network and to, thereby, improve efficiency and quality of the country's electricity supply.
The Indra solution permits the systematic monitoring of energy flows, identifying losses on the basis of measurements taken along the network and of consumption at the power supply points. Furthermore, it analyzes the potential irregularities in the consumption of contracted supply points as well as of direct connections, and classifies areas and sectors of the grid by loss level and progress over time. Another important contribution is the planning and monitoring of the impact of actions for controlling and reducing energy losses.
The inclusion of the solution within the KPLC distribution management system will enable the company to clearly identify the energy balances along its distribution grid and target its inspections and energy recovery toward those areas and clients with higher potential of recovery. In addition, the daily monitoring of energy flows will avoid possible reoccurrences of loss of energy.
Strategic Provider
This new project consolidates Indra's position as the leading business consultant and IT system provider for KPLC, with which it has been working since 20 years ago, having implemented the management systems currently used by its corporate, generation, commercial and distribution areas.
Likewise, Indra is carrying out a project for designing, monitoring and controlling the quality of campaigns intended to retrieve data about its distribution network customers and assets, and for uploading this data to the Kenyan company's commercial management and distribution systems, previously implemented by the multinational consulting and technology firm. This is crucial to ensure access to basic information that will enable optimal development of business processes related to commercial cycle management as well as distribution network management, thereby resulting in improved business ratios.
A leader in the implementation of energy solutions in Africa
Indra is an outstanding leader in the implementation of energy solutions for power companies in Africa. The multinational has been involved in some of the most important modernization processes of the last 15 years. The Spanish multinational's management systems for power companies help manage utilities in Kenya (KPLC, KenGen, Ketraco, NCWSC), Zimbabwe (ZETDC), Zambia (ZESCO), Ethiopia (EEU), Uganda (UMEME) and Cameroon (Eneo), among others. Its most recent projects include the implementation of its support solutions for commercial and management processes in the distribution network of EDM (Electricidade de Moçambique), Mozambique's public electrical power company, and ECG (Electricity Company of Ghana), Ghana's biggest energy distribution company.
Indra's energy and utility solutions have been implemented at more than 140 electricity, water, oil and gas companies in over 30 countries. More than 100 million customers worldwide are currently managed using the systems developed by the multinational consulting and technology firm.
