Strategic Cooperation Agreement in the US power market signed

The engine producers MAN Diesel & Turbo and Fairbanks Morse have finalized a strategic agreement to cooperate in the US market for gas and dual-fuel engines. The companies agreed on an exclusive cooperation in the power sector for a fixed period of 5 years. The document was signed by Marvin Riley, President of Fairbanks Morse and Howard Barnes, Senior Vice President Power Plants at MAN Diesel & Turbo during a ceremony in Augsburg, Germany on June 26 2014.

“The US is a significant market and offers tremendous growth potential for gas fired energy generation”, says Howard Barnes. “With an installed base of over 1,000 MW Fairbanks Morse is a well established player in this market. Working together we can offer efficient solutions for energy facilities of virtually any size. And two premium engine brands joining forces will certainly leave an impression.”

“The MAN brand has an excellent reputation in the United States,” said Marvin Riley. “With access to MAN Diesel & Turbo’s portfolio of gas and dual-fuel engines, we can offer units up to nearly 20 MW and expand our range of high quality and flexible power generation solutions. This opens up substantial additional segments in the power generation market for us at a time when distributed energy is clearly on the rise in the U.S.”

The two companies are very familiar with each other. Fairbanks Morse has been a licensee of MAN marine engines since 1995. “Our companies have been working together successfully for almost two decades already. We will not need any ‘familiarization phase’”, sums up Riley. “This new chapter comes from a long established tradition of mutual trust”, adds Barnes. “We will hit the ground running.”

Fairbanks Morse is a producer of small engines in the range 0.5 - 4.0 megawatts. MAN Diesel & Turbo’s portfolio of gas and dual-fuel engines ranges from 2.3 to 17.6 MW.
